Catena Concept: The homogeneous development of soils at different positions of a slope.

DEM: Digital Elevation Model. A raster elevation model showing continuous change.

Drainage Basin: The area of land where surface runoff converges into one point.

Leaching: The transportation of soil constituents throughout the soil profile.

Pedogenesis: The evolution and development of soil profiles

Pedology: The study of soils.

Pedon: A segment of soil containing all of the horizons within a profile.

Pedoturbation: The mixing of soils caused by some form of distrubance

Runge's Energy Model: S=f(w,o,t)   An energy model explaining the importance of water traveling through  the soils profile
